Uh Oh, What’s Next?
June 8, 2011Last night I had dinner with some friends and part of our dinner conversation surrounded the news about a possible “double dip recession”. If you Google the term “double dip recession” you will get a slew of articles. Some of the writers are not concerned about it and some are saying a “double dip recession” is inevitable and it’s only a matter of time. Others are saying that we are already in a depression. All of my dinner companions were definitely concerned and some were downright scared.
The atmosphere during that conversation was one of uncertainty and I know if my friends are feeling this way so are many others. The one certainty is that uncertainty causes people to reign in their spending and giving – and it’s not just everyday people; corporations, foundations also reign in their spending and giving. This does not bode well for non-profits.
I have talked about how non-profits need to find new streams of revenue and it seems the time to do that is now upon them.
