The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention estimates almost a million incidents of domestic violence per year. Women account for 85 percent of all domestic violence victims.
Domestic abuse, also referred as spousal abuse, occurs when one person in an intimate relationship tries to control or dominate the other person.
If the domestic abuse involves physical violence then it is called domestic violence. Within the realm of domestic abuse, there is also emotional abuse, sexual abuse and economic or financial abuse.
The article goes on to say "Some hospitals report seeing almost double the cases of shaken babies compared to a year ago. The National Domestic Violence Hotline reported domestic violence calls have risen 21 percent in the third quarter of 2008".
