The Business Of Me - Our
Mission
The mission of The Business Of Me is to empower women survivors of domestic violent relationships to take charge of their own finances so that they can break the recurring cycle of violence that often prevents them from leaving the relationship or, not returning to it. Eighty-five percent of women do return because she doesn't have the financial skills she needs to take charge of her own life.
The curriculum is holistic and comprehensive and the program supports our participants long after the end of the six week curriculum.
The program provides survivors specific tools and techniques with which to foster healthy attitudes regarding money and money management by guiding them to address issues relating to self-worth, or as it’s called in The Business Of Me, "Self-Ability".
Once participants have learned to identify their fears about money they are taught specific real-world money management techniques in an innovative and groundbreaking way that has them thinking in depth about, and actively managing, their financial future.
Participants are taught to create a budget and the importance of maintaining that budget to help them achieve success in life. Each item on the budget is addressed and money saving skills are taught.
The curriculum addresses debt and how to handle it, insurance, documentation, savings, charitable giving and how to talk to children about money. Participants complete the six session of the program with extensive real-world personal financial management skills.
Participants are supported with extensive online tools and through a unique feature of The Business Of Me, our "Board of Directors" support group that meets monthly and enables the participants to support one another over time.
This is what some past participants have said about The Business Of Me: “I have a more positive outlook on my future” “I see I've accomplished some of my vision and I didn't even know I did it until taking this class” “It's been a pleasure to be a part of a group where the emphasis was placed on the “I can” attitude” “I cannot thank you enough for the opportunity and hope that you share. Your heartache was overcome by you. I know my financial heartache CAN be overcome by me. It is wonderful how approachable you are, too!” “My outlook has changed in a positive way. I will do the things I was putting off for so long.” “The one thing I noticed was how without a vision and without rid of negative self-talk you can't move on. “Thanks for helping me get ‘moving on' financially”. | ![]() |
The Business Of Me is designed to help survivors of any ethic and socio-economic background who are in varying stages of establishing new lives.
Some may have recently left their violent relationships and are living in a shelter while others are about to move from the shelter to their own new residence.
Still some women are still in the abusive relationship and participate in the program while preparing to leave it.
